Now that you've had a taste of creating routines, the possibilities ofAmazon Echo seem immense to you. And they are, but you have to pay attention to the subtleties and small difficulties. Routines that seem simple to us sometimes go in circles.
To help you, today we are going to see how to create a routine that will allow you to wake up with the music of your choice and by turning on the light in your room… What better way to start the day ?!
Routines: common bases, but subtleties
As part of wake-up routines, we will not initiate them by voice, but via the time at which an action must be implemented. We take the case of an alarm clock, but you can just as easily program an automatic switching on of a connected outlet, or on the contrary its deactivation, or even turn on the lights for your arrival or make a substitute for presence during your holidays. ...
To do this, go to the app Alexa and select Routines, then the + at the top right
From there, select “When this happens” and then “Schedule”. Choose the time at which the routine will start as well as its frequency (daily, during the week, every day, such or such day…).
The next step will be to choose the action to add. We will start with choosing the music to play.
You have several possibilities of sources: Amazon Music, Deezer, Spotify, your music… This is quite simple in most cases, but when you want to listen to a particular song, long enough, it is not the same. Indeed, it is necessary to note either the name of the group, of the title or of the playlist… And the formulation must be exactly the same as that of your source… The simplest remains to create a separate Playlist with only the title that you want to listen when you wake up. And it is this Playlist that you will write down, starting with "Ma". If you have several Echoes, also choose the one that will have the honor of pulling you from the arms of Morpheus (look at the bottom of the screen to select it).
* What if we want to put several actions?
If you want to add an action like turn on the light, select “Add action”. The procedure is the same as for our tutorial on routines. You can thus decide to turn on the light with a low intensity so as not to burn your retinas in the morning.
In summary, select "Connected Home", "device" or "group" (depending on what you want to light), find your lamp or group of lamps and then how you want to light them.
Validate your routine by selecting "Create". The latter will then be present in the list of your routines. You can then deactivate and reactivate it as desired by entering the routine, but also easily change the time, the title to play, the intensity and the color of the bulb ...
And There you go ! Thanks to this tutorial, you will be able to wake up in the morning with the songs of birds and the light of the sun in your room. All thanks to the Alexiens!
Routines no longer hold any real secrets for you. The logic of the routines remains the same, you can thus modify the actions, the triggers…. But that's another story.
Hello,
Thanks for all the work on the alexians!
I have 2 little questions about the routines Alexa I can't find an answer to:
- how to create a routine that runs every day of the week except Thursday (I'm telecommuting on Thursday and I don't want the alarm clock to ring at 6am ^^). Today I deactivate the routine by hand every Wednesday evening and I have to reactivate it on Thursday evening… On the one hand it swells me up and on the other hand when I forget to reactivate it I am super lazy on Friday ...
- how to make so that the playlist launched for the alarm clock is in random reading (the goal being to have a different music every day. FYI, I use spotify as a stream system.
Thank you for your answers,
Jeff
The thank you box
Unfortunately, one can not yet rule out days. The solution is to multiply the routines, which is not a problem, just a bit long to do.
With Spotify, no idea, maybe try to see your default playing order directly on Spotify. 😉

Hello,
How to do a routine on a specific Echo Dot? For example that this routine applies only in the room and not in the whole house? Thank you for your reply !
It all depends on what you want to do, but you can select the devices affected by the routine, the one on which Alexa answers ... A priori no worries, but your question is a little vague. 🙂

Hello, how do I trigger France Inter radio every day at 15 p.m. I'm not talking about daily flash but live radio .. impossible to find when I go into routine…
It is enough to create a routine like in our tutorial… But I think the band has already given you the answer. 😉
Hello I would like a routine to run from dusk to dawn or say it starts at 18 p.m. and ends at 8 a.m. but the app tells me that the start time must be less than the end time
How do I proceed ? thanks in advance
Hello,
Routines are limited to one day.
You need to create two routines in this case. You can easily duplicate it and change the trigger: one for daybreak, the other for bedtime.
Have a good day
Hello,
The easiest is to do 2. One for 8 in the morning which concerns the action of turning off the routine. And a second at 18 p.m. to turn it on. It might be necessary to go through an automation including the routine.
Hi
I use an echo show 5 in my room
I recently reset it,
and since when did I ask him to turn off his screen, alexa executes, but the screen turns back on after a short while (which the device did not do before resetting).
It's annoying the brightness (even at the minimum) wakes me and my partner at night.
Someone have already had this problem and could tell me what to do to fix this problem?
Thank you
Hello, sorry to dig up this post but I have a little problem I manage to create this routine perfectly but I would like the music to start on my Bose speaker which is connected with Alexa outside during the creation I am only offered to launch on the device where I am creating the routine or on my Echo Dot. Thank you.
Hello,
Try it out by creating a speaker group also called a Multiroom (Devices> +> Set up a multiroom). Even if she is alone, you should find this group in the routines. You can also choose the default sound output there.
Good Sunday
Good evening, currently I'm trying to create a specific morning routine. In fact, I would like to wake up with the France Inter news flash then it goes off after ten minutes to trigger the alarm and finally give me the weather forecast when I turn it off. My only problem being that the news flash lasts longer than ten minutes and even if I specify the action "wait ten minutes", the routine continues until the end of the news flash before triggering the next action. So my question is the following "can we determine the duration of an action within a routine?" "Or" do I have to create two routines? "And in this case" will the second routine turn off the first? ". Hoping to have been clear, if you have any ideas. Thanks in advance.
hello, I'm coming to you because I have a little problem with the routines, a small detail that is very important to me
I explain to you when I create a routine I ask for a music then 5 seconds later I ask to light a lamp
alexa reacted well to the voice, start the music on the other hand do not turn on the lights
however when I do the reverse works I mean by the: light 5sec then music
why doesn't ECHO want to turn on my lights after putting on some music ??
if someone has already encountered this problem or has a solution, thank you for helping me
Good to you
Hey people
after weeks of research on forums and on IFTTT I came across this site: https://spotify-daily-shuffle.mikerogers.io/
It allows a fixed time to reshape the order of a playlist! Result: FINALLY an alarm clock with a playlist without always having the same songs playing. I have searched for so long that I am sharing it with you here, it will allow people to spend a lot less time looking for information. Small constraint: a new playlist is created and you have to re-import everything and change the playlist that is playing Alexa.
Thank you for your feedback which should interest more than one. 😉
Hello, I managed to create my routine with lighting and music however the music is never the right one, I created an "Mp3" playlist on deezer and on the app alexa I asked to read "My Mp3 Playlist" and it launches me a Playlist of someone else called "meus mp3" I can't fix this problem, if someone could help me please
Have a good day
Hello,
Unfortunately, this is common at Deezer. Try to rename your playlist and put the exact same name without adding anything.
Good luck 🙂
