Android Tutorial: Alexa by default voice assistant

Not easy to make a generic tutorial with all the modifications made by the manufacturers. Xiaomi seems to be the worst with its MIUI with blind drawers. We will therefore offer you assistance for a device with an overlay. Xiaomi MIUI, another for Samsung One UI and a following one under Huawei EMUI. But in the end, the procedure will remain more or less the same. Ah yes, of course, this is only possible if you have already installed the application Alexa on your phone.

To have Alexa as a voice assistant under Xiaomi MIUI

We will have to go there in stages. First, go to the settings and then in « Applications » et « manage applications ». From there, press the three small dots at the top right to select « Default app management ».

Once in this parameter, you will have to go to select Alexa in two sub-menus: Voice Assistant et assistance and voice input (the last).

Thanks to that, Alexa will launch when you make requests via Bluetooth, via a headset or other, but also when you press the home button. But be careful, make sure you have not deactivated this function. To do this, go to the function shortcuts (type « shortcuts " in the search bar) and watch that the launch of Google Assistant is done via a long press on the home button. And since you replaced the Google Assistant by AlexaIs Alexa who will launch!

A little extra? Ok. If you want your default Assistant to start even if your screen is locked (when you have a helmet for example), look for " Google voice input »In the settings then go to Voice Match and set the last 3 parameters to “ON”. And There you go !!

To have Alexa on Huawei / Honor EMUI

It's ultimately relatively close to what we just saw, except that it is possible to almost directly search for what you want in the settings. Start by searching « grasped… » to have the " Voice input " and " Enter vocally ». Then in "Assistance application", select « Amazon Alexa ». Same in the part « Assist and enter vocally ", select Alexa en "Assistance application".

Alexa as a voice assistant on Samsung Galaxy (One UI)

It's good simpler with the overlay Samsung UI 2.1. There, for once, it is done in two clicks.

First, in settings, find « Support » where you will find "Assistance". Come select « Amazon Alexa » and it's settled. You are free to use it with the home button or by gesturing.

You can, for example, place a widget for more natural access if you use "gesture".

And there you have it, thanks to that you now have Alexa as default voice assistant on your Android phone. There may be subtleties concerning other overlays like Wiko for example, but you see that ultimately, it is always the assistance parameters that you have to enter.
