Amazon Fire TV: two ranges of Smart TV

Unsurprisingly, it is under its Fire TV brand that the e-commerce giant has chosen to distribute two ranges of Smart TV intended for two types of use comprising no less than 8 models from 43 to 75 inches offered at prices ranging from around 300 € to more than 1000 € (from $ 469.99 to $ 1399.99 precisely).

Common hardware

The Smart TVAmazon are obviously animated by Fire OS 7, the in-house operating system based on Android TV 9 (API level 28). All have common hardware with a SoC MTK T31 equipped with a processor ARM Cortex-A55 1.5 GHz, GPU ARM G52 MP1 2EE, 2GB of DDR3 and with a capacity of 16 GB storage.

On the audio side, the different versions support the Dolby Digital Plus and DTS, as well as a host of codecs in 16-bit or 24-bit up to 48 kHz. Only the two largest formats of 65 and 75 inches have the Dolby Vision technology.

In terms of connectivity, Amazon offers Wi-Fi 5 (dual-band 802.11 ac2x2 MIMO) and Bluetooth LE 5.0, which is not folichon, the connection being in turn rather rich with a ethernet port 10/100 Mbps 3 HDMI 2.0 ports et 1 HDMI 2.1 port with eARC, a USB port, a 3.5 mini-jack output, an optical output, an IR input and obviously a cable / antenna input.

Slabs of different sizes

TV panels Amazon Fire TV are available in 3 sizes for the 4-Series range (43 ″, 50 ″ and 55 ″) and 5 sizes for the Omni Series (43 ″, 50 ″, 55 ″, 65 ″ and 75 ″).

They are all of type LCD with "Direct LED" backlight and offer resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 pixels at 60 Hz, supporting the 4K Ultra HD with HDR10 and HLG for a clear picture and vibrant colors.

But where are the differences?

TVs with Alexa really integrated

Besides Dolby Vision support on the two largest formats, the difference is in one thing: the integration of the voice assistant Alexa. Well, almost, because if the two ranges are obviously controllable by voice with a voice remote control or speakers Amazon Echo, only the Omni Series range offers hands-free voice control, in other words built-in microphones.

A module takes place under the screen of Fire TV Omni Series with the traditional LEDs allowing to observe the listening of the vocal assistant and a cut button electronic microphones. Amazon thus renews its concern for confidentiality and, unlike its competitor, does not plan to do without a wake-up call for the moment ...

Price and availability

Televisions Amazon Fire TVs are currently on pre-order in the US and Canada at rates from 469.99 to 1399.99 Canadian dollars. As always, we do not know anything about their date of availability across the Atlantic, or even if they will one day be distributed in Europe.

Fascinated by Alexa since the day I received it in beta test, I gradually became passionate about the subject, before deciding to go further by creating a site with Jean-Christophe. An activity that allows me to quench my thirst for new technologies and share my discoveries about the nicest of communities: Les Alexiens.
